EC orders preparation of panel of polling officers by October 30

Desk Reports :

The Election Commission (EC) is preparing the panel for the 13th National Parliament election. For this, the commission has given field officers until October 30 to collect information. A letter in this regard signed by EC Deputy Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain was sent to all district election officers on Monday.

It has been mentioned that the necessary panel must be prepared by October 30 for the appointment of presiding officers, assistant presiding officers and polling officers. For this, a list of class or grade-based officers and employees will have to be collected from government, semi-government, autonomous, private offices and educational institutions.

The letter states that no employee of class IV (national pay scale grades 17-20) can be included in the panel. However, a separate list can be prepared as assistants to the presiding officers.

The points that have been asked to be kept in mind are—

While preparing the panel, importance should be given to the honesty, efficiency, courage, impartiality, rank, seniority and efficiency of the officers. Controversial officials and employees or members of any political party cannot be included in the panel. If necessary, information about age, physical and mental condition must also be collected and mentioned in the list.
In addition, the Election Commission has directed to have a sufficient number of female assistant presiding officers and polling officers to perform duties at women’s polling stations.
